The Berean Bible Study Project
Searching the Scriptures Daily
“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
— Acts 17:11
“Test everything; hold fast what is good.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Our Purpose
The Berean Bible Study Project encourages careful, informed, and faithful study of Scripture.
Each study begins with the biblical text and seeks to understand it within its historical, literary, linguistic, and theological context. Where helpful, we consider archaeology, manuscript evidence, the original Hebrew and Greek, and insights from Christian interpreters across the centuries.
Questions are central to the Berean method. Rather than asking readers simply to accept an interpretation, we encourage them to examine the evidence and return continually to Scripture itself.
Whether you are studying individually, participating in a group, preparing to teach, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of the Bible, we hope this growing library will become a useful companion in your study of God’s Word.
What Makes a Berean Study Different?
Each study may include:
- Historical and literary context
- Hebrew and Greek word studies where they clarify the text
- Manuscript, archaeological, geographical, and cultural background
- Relevant maps and illustrations
- Perspectives from major Christian traditions and our Conversation Partners
- Honest consideration of differing interpretations
- Questions for individual or group discussion
- Practical application and a Berean Reflection
We distinguish as carefully as possible between what the biblical text says, historical evidence, scholarly conclusions, theological interpretation, and personal application.
We do not ask Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Bonhoeffer, or any other interpreter to decide the meaning of Scripture for us. They join the conversation because they can help us see questions and possibilities we might otherwise miss.
Scripture remains our final authority.
